Protecting the Tropical Dry Forest
We are guardians of one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet
At Agrícola Camelias, we protect, restore, and share knowledge about the Tropical Dry Forest (BST), convinced that its conservation is a global cause.

The TDF represents only 6.4% of the National System of Protected Areas and has lost more than 90% of its original coverage due to human activity. Despite this, it continues to harbor exceptional natural wealth:
- 2,569 plant species, 83 of which are endemic.
- 68 species of beetles, 24% of the national diversity.
- 49 species of amphibians, 6% of the total in Colombia.

Our commitment to sustainability
Agrícola Camelias is a strategic ecological refuge for the biodiversity of the BST in the Caribbean region.
- We conserve forests in different stages of succession, which allow for the natural regeneration of the ecosystem.
- We facilitate essential ecological processes such as:
- Seed dispersal
- Biological control
- Nutrient recycling
In addition, we act as a biological corridor, connecting isolated fragments of the forest to key areas such as:
➡ Guillermo Piñeres Botanical Garden
➡ Ciénaga de la Virgen
➡ Montes de María
Today, Camelias records 86% of the birds sighted in Turbaco according to eBird

Living laboratory for conservation and research
We project ourselves as an epicenter for science, training, and active conservation of the Tropical Dry Forest in the region.
We have developed academic partnerships with universities such as the University of Cartagena, the Technological University of Bolívar, and the University of Sinú to develop projects and research agendas that allow us to understand the ecosystem value of the BST and Camelias agriculture.
Research 2024-2025:
- 4 monitoring transects installed in forest and agroecosystems
- Capture of butterflies and bees using active and passive techniques
- Recording of 192 butterflies and 160 bees in different families and genera
- Recording of native flora of the tropical dry forest
- Measurement of environmental variables such as humidity, light, wind, and temperature
